It’s not really its like the silver looking jewelry that you can buy anywhere for like 5 dollars. The silver is getting dark and it looks like rust, but I’m not sure if it is. How do you clean it so it looks like new again?
The absolute best product I have seen to clean silver jewelry are these wipes by Connoisseurs. They come in a red tub-like thing. Here is a link to what the tub looks like: http://www.lacywest.com/wipes.jpg
I know they are sold at Kay Jewelers but I think the might also be at WalMart and other such places. These wipes remove ALL the tarnish and make your jewelry look GREAT, brand new! They have even worked on quarters that I am saving for the state quarter collection.
From what I have always been told, you should not use any type of liquid cleaner on silver jewelry. Only dry cloths.

get jewlery cleaner. You can buy it at your local grocery store or at a CVS or something. It comes with a little tiny brush you clean it with and then you soak it in the liquid, and then it comes out crystal clear.

Toothpaste, get th one that has flour, and the one that has the muscle and a hammer… it works great!

What’s happening is that the copped in the sterling silver (since sterling in 92.5% silver and 7.5% copper) is oxidizing. It’s common and not dangerous to you… just looks bad!
Without getting it professionally cleaned, your best option is to call a local jewelry store and see if they carry something called Sunshine Cloths. They are yellow, chemically treated (non-toxic) cloths, that do wonders for silver and gold jewelry. Just rub your pieces with the cloth and there you go. If you have a lot of detail in your jewelry (hard to reach areas) some jewelers carry the same Sunshine brand but in a liquid form. It comes in a little plastic bottle with a little scrub brush. In the end, use stuff designed to work on jewelry and you’ll get good results.

Even the sterling silver beads will get dark if the jewelry haven’t been prepared well. You can use a soft brush or jewelry cloth to clean its surface
